Teaching Style: Her teaching style in her own words “I like to help each player find their own unique style and voice in their playing, while honing their technical abilities and skills to be able to express themselves adequately. I am very adamant that every student has the potential of being great, and that their level of greatness is based on their willingness to practice and work hard, their attitude and the support and inspiration from their teachers and their parents.”

Focus:Sonnet started drum lessons at the age of 21 following a dance injury that ended her dance career as a ballet and show dancer, 3 months after starting lessons, she was chosen to audition as drummer for a show at Richard Loring’s Sound Stage. Her audition proved successful and for the next 5 seasons, she played drums in the popular all-girl show Girl Talk.

What makes you cool:The highlight of her career thus far has been to play the opening act of the One Direction Concerts with Johnny Apple at the FNB Stadium and Green Point Stadium, as well as currently playing drums for Martin Bester, radio DJ for Radio Jacaranda in his Afrikaans debut career.

Biography: Subsequently she has played drums in corporate bands such as SHE, Scandal, Canned Heat; percussion drums in shows for renowned pianist Rocco De Villiers, drums for theatre shows; Chef Rattle and Roll, Fire and Ice and Homegrown; sang, danced and drummed in Street Beat, a variety show at the Carousel; and played sessions.Besides playing and teaching drums, Sonnet wrote a hit-song for all-girl group NKD “Step Right Up”, has choreographed various shows, teaches ballet and has been a recording artist.

My motto is to take on the challenge of becoming better at that which you do and who you are; and take on opportunities and challenges fearlessly.
